Tip #2 - Do What Tiger Does

What do Tiger Woods, Peyton Manning, and Dwight Howard have in common? They all have a coach.

The top performers in any sport or industry recognize that they need someone helping them to refine the fundamentals of their craft. Bob Nardelli, the CEO of Home Depot, recently said that without a coach, people "will NEVER reach their maximum capabilities.”

The real estate industry is no exception. If you check with the top producers in your office you’ll discover that most of them are involved in an on-going coaching program.   Coaching is the one vital tool that the best use to get even better. RE/MAX agents in the U.S. average over $140,000 in annual commissions.

Most people would think that’s pretty good. But RE/MAX agents involved in coaching programs typically make at least $240,000 annually.   Those numbers are right in line with a recent Fortune magazine survey of executives who said that coaching increased their income an average of $100,000, or about six times what the coaching had cost them.

The real estate industry has a number of excellent coaches, including my personal favorites Brian Buffini, Howard Brinton, and Dirk Zeller. You may want to check with your broker or manager to see if they have a favorite coach or if they provide coaching services.

Imagine how different our industry would be if all agents committed to long-term success got involved in coaching. We’d all make more money, there would be no deals left for the amateurs and part-timers, consumers would be better served by dedicated professionals, and those of us who love this business could be proud of its reputation for excellence.   If you don’t have a coach, get one!
